Open Question: what's going on with my bf and bff?

names have been changed: i live in massachusetts, as does my boyfriend will. my best friend charlotte lives in florida, our relationship is mainly through the use of AIM, text, email, etc... i introduced them on AIM last year. the two really started talking over the past two months, i'd say, but will seems to be rather infatuated with her. whenever i ask him what's going on, he says something like, "talking to charlotte" or "charlotte's sending me a song." he finds ways to insert her into almost every conversation. what disturbs me most is that he informed me that she said she would "dig him if [she] knew him in real life." i've tried to remain pretty chill about this whole thing, i don't know if i'm just being paranoid or if it is actually abnormal for them to be communicating like this. so my questions are, should i confront one or the other about their relationship, and if so, how should i go about doing that?...
