Open Question: Maritime: SUNY or Massachusetts?

So I will be visiting both at some point but I need to make a choice. Suny is closer to my home, but not by much compared to Mass. I mostly want to know which is a better school academically and what the atmosphere is like. I have heard some things about SUNY being over crowded but i don't know if its true. Right now it seems like SUNY offers more pros than massachusetts but i'm not totally sure and I want someone elses opinion. I'm not talking about all of massachusetts or all of suny.
